Newsletter published "in the interest of NOPD personnel and the communities we serve." Volume 1, number 1, dated October 20, 1949, contains the following statement: "This is your newspaper, an official organ of the Department of Police. The news contained in this publication will be concerned with every matter of police activity. This publication will be distributed twice monthly and every officer will be a reporter. Captains of the precincts are requested to have their desk sergeants forward to Headquarters, attention of OUR BEAT, any news of interest. This includes good arrests, births, marriages and deaths, besides meritorious deeds."
Though the publication changed somewhat over the years, it did remain as the "house organ" of the New Orleans Police Department until it was suspended at the end of the year 1978. Our Beat resumed publication late in the administration of Mayor Marc H. Morial.
See the City Archives card catalog for holdings, 1949-1978. The Archives also has the following issues of the revived publication: Winter, 2000; Oct/Nov, 2002; Mar/Apr, 2003; Dec., 2003
